On October 20th, State Representative candidate Martha Pachke and Kane County State’s Attorney candidate Jamie Mosser held a Facebook Live conversation in honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The two candidates were joined by domestic violence survivor and founder of Colton’s Legacy, Cassandra Tanner-Miller, who shared the tragic story that led to the death of her 18-month-old son, Colton.
Mosser shared her experience working as an attorney in the field of domestic violence, as well as ways the criminal justice system can better support victims.
Paschke discussed legislation around this issue, including HB4262 which established “Colton’s Task Force” to combat domestic violence in the state of Illinois. The bill is named for Tanner-Miller’s son, and she was an instrumental part in bringing it into existence.
