At a press conference in Geneva on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, Democratic candidate Martha Paschke announced that she is being endorsed by Steve Andersson, the Republican former office holder of the seat she is seeking. “I am honored to receive the endorsement of former state Rep. Steve Andersson, who fairly represented the 65th District with integrity, tirelessly working to not only speak for our community, but to listen to his constituents,” said Paschke.
During his remarks at the press conference, Rep. Andersson praised Paschke’s work in the community, saying, “I need a Representative who is willing to speak up on the issues of our day and who is willing to be an energetic, enthusiastic advocate in Springfield. As we stand here today, I don’t have that. But I have confidence that in about 35 days…that will change and we’ll have Martha Paschke as our Representative.”
As a gesture of his confidence in Paschke, Rep. Andersson presented her with a gift, the lapel pin given to State Representatives in Illinois. “This is the pin that we’re all given when we become Reps, and whether she becomes a Rep or not, she’s earned this.”
